JMIR Neurotechnology, a peer-reviewed journal, invites submissions on advancements in the field of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) that represent the transformative convergence of neuroscience, engineering, and technology.

Studying BCIs is crucial for unlocking new frontiers in medical treatment, enhancing human-computer interaction, and gaining unparalleled insights into the complexities of neural processes, thereby bridging the gap between neuroscience and technology. BCIs have already shown a significant impact in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders such as traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, epilepsy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Parkinson disease.

The scope for this call includes but is not limited to:

Novel BCI technologies, such as optogenetics, augmented reality, and synthetic telepathy
Clinical applications of BCIs in neurological disorders such as epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and stroke
Applications of BCIs in neurorehabilitation and epilepsy
Human-computer interaction, including user-centered design, usability, and accessibility
Machine learning and signal processing for BCIs
Ethical, legal, and social issues involved in the use of BCIs, such as data ownership, cybersecurity, and brain hacking
Neuroplasticity, neurofeedback, and BCI training
BCIs for augmentative and alternative communication

Submissions not reviewed or accepted for publication in JMIR Neurotechnology may be offered cascading peer review or transfer to other JMIR Publications journals, according to standard JMIR Publications policies. Authors are encouraged to submit study protocols or grant proposals to JMIR Research Protocols before data acquisition to preregister the study (Registered Reports; subsequent acceptance in one of the JMIR Publications journals is then guaranteed).
